Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey In Iraq '05

Upcoming “Dukes of Hazzard” star Jessica Simpson, and Nick Lachey visit Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit in Iraq. They were not in Iraq to see Saddam, and they were not in Iraq to help count money at the Central Bank of Iraq. Despite two suicide bomb attacks near by during their visit, these stars were in Iraq near the end of April to meet the coalition soldiers who serve their dangerous mission in Iraq.

They were not there with some whimsical celebrity attitude to show the world how good and glamorous they are. Jess and Nick came as messengers bringing a part of America’s support and attention. Their visit turned out to be a pleasant surprise for soldiers who met them. That reminded that their homeland does not forget of them. The Jess and Nick visit brought them a spirit of their homes, of their culture, of their families. What they do is for the people who are left back at home, for the world who need their protection from terrorism. Soldiers are people too and Jess and Nick’s visit made them forget about war for a moment and feel like ordinary Americans at home.

Another messenger bringing a part of good humour from home who came to Iraq earlier were the famous actors and comedians Robin Williams and Blake Clark who came with the company of former Denver Bronco quarterback John Elway, and sportscaster and model Leeann Tweeden led by Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers with the help of United Service Organizations. The meeting with service men and women was so warm and homelike. They talked and laughed with soldiers so simple-mindedly and simple-heartedly. The celebrities passed to the soldiers a clear message that American nation is grateful for their antiterrorist hard mission and they showed their skills, posed for pictures with soldiers and and gave autographs.

Like ordinary Americans celebrities visited military units, places of troops’ location in Iraq and hospitals where injured soldiers undergo medical treatment to give them support and show their respectful attitude. Remember the military brass and civilian celebrities visiting Walter Reed in Washington, D.C., military hospital? Celebs are not neglectful and come to hospital as ordinary Americans even if they cannot go to Iraq but they can pay their respect in hospital at the time when wounded heroes need attention and care the most. Among the celebrities who came to the hospital were actors Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and Peter Dante, broadcaster Bob Costas and former Miami quarterback Dan Marino.

Celebrities understand that at the time when a soldier is physically wounded he can be easily wounded emotionally because of possible ignorance from people who do not care. And the mental anguish is hard to quench than physical injury. So it is important to show these sons that they are outstanding citizens who serve their country a great service and the country comes to them with open heart and mind. It is symbolical but the soldier Eivind while in hospital got a visit from the regimental commander of the 82nd Airborne Division who presented the soldier with a Purple Heart.

A reliable source says that Jessica Simpson payed for a can of coke in Iraq with a 25000 Dinar Iraq bank note and told the shop keeper in plain english "Keep the change".
